INFORMATION FOR VOTERS:

WHO MAY VOTE?

You are eligible to vote if you are:

A Canadian Citizen (landed immigrants and British subjects are not qualified to vote);
At least 18 years old on Voting Day;
Reside in the City of North Bay or are the owner, tenant or spouse of the owner or tenant of land in the City of North Bay;
Not prohibited, by law, from voting

WHAT SCHOOL BOARD DO I VOTE FOR?

It is important you check your status on the Voters' List to determine whether you have been listed as an elector of the correct school board. If the listing is incorrect, you can attend at the Clerk's Office to amend the list prior to attending the Voting Place.

Voters must be Roman Catholic and be qualified as electors to be separate school electors. Voters must have French Language Rights and be qualified as electors to be French school electors. Where your child attends school does not have any bearing on voter qualifications.

Owners or tenants (or spouses of owners or tenants) of non-residential property are not eligible to vote in school board elections.

AM I ON THE VOTERS' LIST?

The preliminary list of all electors will be publicly posted in the Clerk's Office and will be available by September 1, 2010. You may call to inquire whether you are on the list by contacting the Clerk's Office at (705) 474-0400. This list is available for inspection during regular business hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

If you are not on the Voters' List or if the information about you is incorrect, you may go to the Clerk's Office and fill out an application to be added to the List. All applications of revision must be in the designated form, properly completed and signed by the applicant. Photo-identification and proof of residence will be required. Please note that the Clerk may also require proof of qualification as an elector. Please call the Clerk's Office to determine what documentation you may need.

The last day of filing concerning additions or deletions is: MONDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2010.

The last day to remove another person's name is: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2010.

HOW DO I GET ON THE VOTERS' LIST OR FIND OUT IF I AM ON THE VOTERS' LIST BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2010?

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for preparing the preliminary list of electors for each municipality and school board during an election year. To find out if you are currently on MPAC's Municipal Property Assessment database, to update or change your information or to have your name added to this database, please contact MPAC directly.

CAN I ADD MY NAME TO THE VOTERS' LIST AT THE VOTING PLACE ON ELECTION DAY?

Yes. However, it is recommended that you to complete your revision application sooner in order to avoid delays at the Voting Place.

WHEN CAN I VOTE?

On Voting Day (Monday, October 25, 2010), the Voting Places are open between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Voters are encouraged to take advantage of the advance voting days in order to avoid the traditional line-ups on Voting Day.

WHERE DO I VOTE?

If your name is on the Voters' List you will receive a Voter Notification Card in the mail in late September/early October. This card will provide you with a list of all of the voting locations, dates and times. Voting places will be located at the following schools:

WHAT ARE THE BUSIEST TIMES AT THE VOTING PLACES?

The peak voting times are between 10 and 11 a.m., and 5 to 8 p.m. To avoid waiting times, voters are encouraged to vote at non-peak times or on the Advance Voting Days.

IS PARKING AVAILABLE AT ALL VOTING PLACES?

Yes. However, some locations have limited parking areas. You can minimize parking difficulties by walking, taking public transit or going to vote at non-peak voting times. Non-peak times are usually between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12 noon, and between 2 and 5 p.m.

ARE VOTING PLACES ACCESSIBLE?

Yes, all Voting Places are accessible. Service animals are welcome in all locations.

WHEN ARE THE ADVANCE VOTING DAYS? In addition to the regular Voting Places, there will be advance voting at City Hall on the following dates and times:

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME WHEN I VOTE?

The Municipal Elections Act requires that you bring proof of identification to your assigned Voting Place. ALL VOTERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF NAME, QUALIFYING ADDRESS AND SIGNATURE. (ID Requirements)

You must provide:

EITHER one identification document showing your name, qualifying address and signature
OR two identification documents, one showing your name and signature and the other showing your name and qualifying address.
It is also helpful if you have your voter notification card with you.

WHAT ARE THE PROCEDURES FOR VOTING PROXIES?

If you are unable to attend at a Voting Place on any of the dates set for voting, you may appoint someone to act as your proxy. This allows you to appoint another eligible elector to attend at the Voting Place and vote on your behalf.

WHO CAN ACT AS A PROXY?

A proxy must be someone who is eligible to vote in the City of North Bay and who you trust to vote in accordance with your wishes. You are allowed to act as a proxy only once for a non-related person. You are allowed to act as a proxy more than once if you are voting on behalf of immediate family members (spouse, sibling, parent, children, grandparent and grandchild).

HOW DO I GET A PROXY FORM?

Call the Clerk's Office (474-0400) to receive a proxy form by mail or pick one up at the Clerk's Office during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday).

Proxy forms will be issued between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, September 14, 2010 until Monday, October 25, 2010. Proxy forms can also be picked up at the Clerk's Office between 12 and 5 p.m. on advance voting days.

CAN I SUBMIT A PROXY FORM OVER THE PHONE, BY FAX OR BY E-MAIL?

No. The Municipal Elections Act does not permit photocopied, faxed or digital signatures on election documents.

WHAT DOES THE PERSON APPOINTED AS A VOTING PROXY HAVE TO DO?

The person who will be proxy voting for you, must take the form to the Clerk's Office during regular business hours for certification by election staff. Your proxy will then vote on your behalf at the location where you would have voted.

Please Note: This document must be presented, in duplicate. The person chosen by the voter to vote for them on Voting Day must personally deliver the form to the Clerk's Office for certification. The form must have original signatures. The Clerk will require photo-identification.

CAN THE VOTING PROXY VOTE ON HIS/HER OWN BEHALF TOO?

Yes. They would vote at their own Voting Place if it is different from yours. If you would both vote at the same Voting Place, they can vote twice at that location, once for themselves, and once as your voting proxy.

WILL THERE BE CANDIDATES' MEETINGS?
